Coal is a very - VERY common ore in the Minecraft world. Along with iron, it is the only ore that can be found above the sea in the mountains. It is so common, people tend to ignore it after a few stacks. It can also be found by smelting wood in a furnace to make "charcoal". Coal is an important ore, despite being so common. Being so abundant makes this ore a good supply of experience orbs.
SurvivalCraft
In the Minecraft clone SurvivalCraft, coal has a similar sprite as Minecraft coal, but drops 3 coal chunks. Wood can also be burnt to make charcoal that stacks with mined coal. It can also be used as a pigment, and can be boiled in paints to make them black.
